What is this trend about
A random encounter becomes more interesting when the person represents something the audience wants for themselves. We’re seeing this across several creators. One asks random New Yorkers how much they make, then turns the answer into a big dollar figure on screen.

Another actively searches for millionaires and billionaires to ask how they built their wealth. Meanwhile, an Indonesian student living in the US has turned finding fellow Indonesians doing unexpected things abroad into a recurring series.
The formats aren’t exactly the same, but they all give viewers something to see themselves in through the person on camera.
Here are the three creators that we find use a similar method of the content creation:
The simplest version of the format is asking a stranger about their income and letting the number do the work.
He usually starts the video with a simple:
“What’s your name?”
It’s giving viewers a quick introduction to the person before getting to the question.

The creator doesn’t need to explain the person’s entire career history. A single number already gives viewers something to react to. “How much is that compared to what I make? What job do they have? How old are they?”
The millionaire and billionaire interview format takes the same idea a step further. The creator asks “how did you get there?” The video usually begins with a simple
“Excuse me..”.

Seeing someone who’s already made it can spark curiosity, but knowing how they got there makes the story more worth following. Viewers get to hear about their career, how they built their wealth, and what they would tell someone starting from nothing.
Kenichi Mario has also been turning unexpected encounters into content, whether he meets Indonesians abroad or simply comes across an interesting local or foreigner.
